Spring Mermaid FAQ
Q: I need a new candle, but I have to be careful with scents. Is this a strong, smelly girl or more like a gentle scent on the breeze?
Short answer: To me, the candle has the strongest smell of all the products, but it's not overbearing. She's definitely not giving Bath & Body Works levels of intensity, but she's also not just a whisper of a scent.
Longer answer: While burning, the candle provides nice, pleasant glow of a smell that fills the room but is still subtle. Unlit, you can still smell it, but it’s not overbearing, and smells stronger the closer you get to it.
Q: I’m super sensitive to smells. Will this give me a migraine?
Short answer: If me and my people are an indication, then no, it should not. Everyone’s noses and sensitivities are different, though, so I can’t say for sure how this will affect you; however I have done everything in my power to make this as friendly to my scentsitive fam as I possibly can!
Longer answer: I only use super-gentle fragrance oils (scents that are predominantly comprised of synthetic chemicals), which I specifically chose because they are as free of nasty chemicals (including phthalates, parabens, carcinogens, and reproductive toxins) as I can get them, and as gentle on my nose and skin as I can get them.
I've tested Spring Mermaid on three friends and my mom, all with different scent- and skin-sensitivities, and so far we've had nothing but positive reactions. (One bestie did get a sensitivity reaction when smelling Spring Mermaid on a flare-up day, but every other day was able to use the scrub, the oil, and the spray just fine.)
Q: Is it floral-heavy? Or does the lemon come through more?
Short answer: I would say the wisteria and the sweetened vanilla-lemon come through the strongest. (Also, when you envision the lemon, think creamy Meyer lemon ice cream and fresh lemon bars, not bathroom cleaner.)
Longer answer: I envisioned this scent as sitting at a little bistro table, overlooking the blue sea along the Amalfi Coast in Italy, sipping a glass of limoncello under an overhang of wisteria blossoms, the scent of lemon and orange blossoms drifting in while someone’s laundry dries on a clothesline nearby. Hopefully that gives you an idea of what to expect!
Q: For the oils and sprays, how strong do they smell? How long will they last when I'm wearing them?
Short answer: The oil will provide a gentle smell on the body that will drift in and out all day, and the spray acts as more of a refresher - it definitely lasts, but it is in a water and witch hazel base rather than an oil, so it will evaporate more quickly.
Longer answer: As with any scent, you will get nose-blind to it after a time, but I’ve found that when I wear the body oil it definitely activates throughout the day and I get whiffs of it, particularly when a breeze hits me or I turn a corner. People also still remark on the scent even after I’ve been wearing it a while, mostly when they’re walking past me or are in close proximity (I get the most compliments with hugs!). I tend to apply the oil first thing after my shower and spritz the spray on throughout the day when I want an extra boost of scent.
Q: Can I use the Body & Bath Oil on my face?
Short answer: Yes! Although I formulated the body & bath oil for use on the body and in the bath, it is perfectly safe to use on your face, if you so wish it.
Longer answer: All of the fragrance oils I used to make this scent are safe for use in leave-on facial moisturizers, and the oil base is a mix of skin-friendly Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Sea Buckthorn Oil - all great for sensitive skin, moderate- to fast-absorbing, and low on the comedogenic rating scale (meaning they are less pore-clogging). The shimmer comes from a gentle, skin-friendly mica. Unless you have a sensitivity to any of those ingredients, you should be good to go!
