Lion's Gate Portal Mini Manifestation Ritual

If you’re at all on the witchy side of things, you may have heard of the Lion’s Gate Portal. If not, never fear! It's time for a crash course. (:

The Lion's Gate Portal is an annual astrological event that starts towards the end of July and is generally considered to peak on August 8th, when the Sun is in Leo and the Earth comes into alignment with the star Sirius.

This is considered a powerful time for manifestation and visualization, so I've put together a mini manifestation ritual for the occasion. It doesn't require a lot of materials, and can be done in just a few minutes. Let's get into it!*

*As a note, while the magic of 8/8 is considered extra potent and great to tap into, you can honestly do this ritual any time, so if you miss the Portal, don't worry about it and manifest away. (:

What you'll need:

  • Piece of paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Red, gold, or orange candle (if available; any candle also works, or you can skip this)
  • A garden, potted plant, or patch of dirt (not necessary)

First, sit down somewhere you feel safe and comfortable. If you can be outside and feel the sun on your face, even better.

Close your eyes, and take a few moments to breathe and settle into where you are. Allow the sounds around you to wash over you. Tune into your breath, and place your hand over your heart. Check in with how you feel right now, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Sit with that for a few breaths and allow yourself to arrive in the present.

Now, begin to picture where you'd like to be in 6 months to a year. Nothing is too big (or too small!). Imagine your ideal work and financial life, your romantic and friend relationships, your home, car, creative practice, and anything else you might be thinking about.

Allow space for whatever come up. If you find yourself thinking "that's too much," or "I couldn't possibly," just notice it, breathe into where you feel that resistance in your body (or just breathe), and keep visualizing.

Now really feel into your dream life. How does this new life make you feel - at ease, joyful, loved, playful, free? Where do you feel this in your body - relaxed shoulders, no more headaches, a soft belly, no more aching legs? Try to feel that emotion and sensation in your body.

When picturing this life, imagine specifics - a cozy corner window with buttery sunlight where you can read a book, the smell of new leather in your car, the feeling of a lover's hand around your waist.

When this feels complete, open your eyes. Take your piece of paper and write down what you just visualized. You can write whatever pieces of it make sense to you - brief summaries, words, a full description, whatever works best for you.

When you're done, fold the paper three times, folding it towards you. Place it under the candle. (If you don't have a candle or can't have open flames in your home, you can skip this.) Light the candle, holding the sensations associated with your new life in your heart and body.

Allow the candle to burn all the way down.

Take the piece of paper, still folded, and bury it in the earth. If you have a garden or a potted plant, bury it there.

If you don't have access to anywhere you can "plant" your dreams, you can simply compost the paper or leave it on your altar space, if you have one, or somewhere you'll have it near you (i.e. your desk, purse, wallet, or car). If buried, pour some water on it, imagining you are watering your hopes and dreams like a seed.

That's it! Move your body a bit, give yourself a hug, maybe dance to your favorite song, whatever feels right. Now move about your day as if these things are already in motion. Blessed manifesting!
